A Gathering @ Cafe Cartel

Monday, 19th May 2008

We got together last night to celebrate the birthdays of Kingston and JY, but sadly, certain people could not turn up as usual. Nonetheless, JY started organising this dinner about two weeks beforehand, and I was really looking forward to seeing them again.

JY's initial suggestion for dinner was either Curry Favor, located at Stamford House, or Changing Appetite at Marina Square. However, our amazing lack of decisiveness led us, albeit half an hour later, to the Cafe Cartel at Marina Square. Eight of us were present for dinner, with Joel and Serena joining us after the meal. I shall decline to put the names of those who did not turn up, as it isn't a crime to do so, but it is disappointing that it is so difficult for a group of guys, who incredibly could find one another despite being tens of kilometres apart in rural Meilin, to meet up here in Singapore every once in a while.

At least the dinner was satisfying. I'm not going to show you photos of what I ate nor give an in-depth review of how my dinner tasted like as this isn't a food blog, but I hope to say that everyone was pleased with their meal. I know at least one person who was not happy with their service, but overall it was not bad enough to disrupt our festive small talk. And much thanks to Xavier too, who constantly helped us, and himself of course, with water and bread. It was all really much appreciated.

Kingston left shortly after Joel arrived, and I had to leave as well when Serena came (but it wasn't because of her, I was feeling unwell at that point in time). But according to Joel's blog and what Xavier told me, they headed off to play pool at Marina Square, and made it in time to catch the last train home. It was good meeting up with them, as always, but each time we meet just seems to be a mere reminder that one of us is getting older. And CS is next.
