Taiwan, ROC! And R&R, Of Course.
Saturday, 11th August 2007 to Tuesday, 28th August 2007 // 18 days
It was to be the one of the longest trips away from home for some of us, but we were all definitely very excited about going to Taiwan, Republic of China (ROC).
Certainly not for the training, nor missions, but for the Recreation & Relaxation days that we would get to spend shopping in Taipei.
The flight to Taipei was not a very long one, but as it was a night flight, we reached Taiwan in the early morning.
From the airport, we took a chartered bus to the Starlight camp located in Meilin, and this was to be more or less our quarters for the next two weeks.
The journey by bus was quite long, and when we reached the camp it was pouring.
The first few days were spent settling into the bunks and drawing of uniforms, mainly administrative matters.
Besides that, we got to explore the camp and soon discovered the location of the canteen and mess, much to our delight.
One of the days was also spent recce-ing the entire Meilin area, highlights of which were the scenic mountainous view of the town and the fast-food pit-stops.
It was not long before serious training began.
